影片通过跨越数千年、不同时空的三条故事线，交织出无形之中彼此呼应的科幻寓言。

　　影片讲述了阜县妖孽横行，县上的孩子不断离奇失踪，疯癫和尚受命下界驱魔降妖，正巧碰上地府判官钟馗来人间收魂。二人嬉笑怒骂斗嘴斗法，在爆笑不断的接连乌龙中引出了神秘银面人，还结识了美艳绝伦的客栈老板娘和凭借一张嘴就能把人“说死”的怪异书生，牵扯出一段前缘未尽痴缠几世的人狐恋。千年妖狐日日行善却为何屡屡炼鬼？神秘银面人到底是谁？佛、道、妖、魔聚首阜县，一场杀机四起的混战即将开启，疯癫和尚又将如何应对……

　　明正德年间，禁卫百户耿烈因钦差被杀贬为捕头。此时宁昌府发生连串命案，波及宁王寿宴，耿烈奉命追查。为宁王献画富商被毒杀，刺杀钦差的女杀手再次出现，这一切让耿烈意识到宁昌府酝酿的风暴，将会改变大明的朝局。

该片由四个单元组成，分别是《军属》《遗嘱》《抉择》《生命大接力》。《军属》讲述解放军军官侯泽刚率队到国外执行维和任务后，他怀孕即将分娩的妻子吴秀芬查出患癌症，腹中的二孩刚出生就夭折，吴秀芬对丈夫隐瞒实情，顽强地抗击病魔和抚养7岁的大儿子，让丈夫在国外安心执行维和任务的故事；《遗嘱》讲述双拥模范许大周一家几十年如一日祭奠革命烈士的故事；《抉择》讲述双拥模范郑尚德一家三代人守护烈士陵园几十年的故事；《生命大接力》讲述县武装部政委边文军救助受重伤生命垂危的贫困女孩小刘梅的故事。

　　在一次例行的夜间巡逻，警察朱莉和西蒙不慎伤了一个副局长的儿子，在昏迷状态，没有明显的理由下，他暴力的杀死了他们的同事，面对纪律处分，他们得不到上级的支持，在为他们的报告进行调查的过程中，发现在这个年轻人的房子有一个奇怪的药物。他们决定自己进行调查，发现一个新的网络化制造贩卖非法毒品的组织……

Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble.
