大秦帝国灭亡，刘邦（张丰毅 饰）与项羽（吕良伟 饰）一起打拼却只能被册封为汉王，被调配至西蜀，而项羽则得到了虞姬（关之琳 饰）的独爱。刘邦之妻吕雉（巩俐 饰）不甘心屈居人下，怂恿刘邦入汉后广招人才，表面上与虞姬情同姐妹，但是却利用项羽对虞姬的感情从中挑拨，与此同时刘邦对 虞姬则关爱有加，这更引起了吕雉的妒忌。而此时此刻项羽不理朝政日夜笙歌，最终楚军大败，虞姬为了不让项羽分心而自尽，可是项羽最后还是一败涂地，在项羽乌江自刎后刘邦统一了天下，吕雉成为了他的王后。 本片的监制是张艺谋，汇聚了两岸三地的实力派演员，主题曲为黄沾创作的《思归赋》，演唱者是腾格尔。

Waldo and Irene have been living with Margit for the four years that they have been engaged.
